Center for Self Care

 About Me

Ellen Beamanimage

My philosophy is that health and self care is for everybody, and every body. We are all built differently physically and mentally from one another, so our individual health/exercise/self care routines should be unique to each of us as well. I make it my business to identify each client’s specific needs and limitations/ sensitivities to customize a system that is specialized for that individual client.

Originally from Texas, I became a fitness coach in 2003 while getting my Bachelor of Science in Agronomy at Texas Tech University. I completed my yoga instruction certification in 2006, and found my passion for teaching people how to communicate with their bodies.

I enjoy spending my free time exercising and coaching youth sports. I skated with the Rose City Rollers from 2009 through 2013: won the Portland City Championships twice, skated for the Portland All-Star team, acted as team captain and coach, and was a member of the Board of Directors. My current involvement with roller derby is as a coach for the Rose Buds, our junior league of girls ages 12-17.

After taking two years off of fitness for outdoor conservation work / wildland fire fighting (NorthWest Youth Corp, US Fish and Wildlife Service), I moved to Portland to begin working at the Lloyd Athletic Club in October 2008. In 2010 I took a course for certification in Healing Touch Energy work to deepen and enhance my experience as a yoga instructor. Through combining these two modalities I have developed an intuitive wisdom for reading my clients’ bodies and identifying their individual needs.
